High Rock BFL Recap

Going into the tournament I felt real good about being able to catch between 15 and 19 pounds. I had found an out of the way place that was holding a large number of 3-4 pound fish. There was a ton of bait and the fish location was almost predictable. The best action was after 9:00. Then came the rains on Friday. I checked the place in the rain mid-day Friday and fished for 15 minutes and caught two threes and a four. I put the trolling motor up and headed in quite sure of what I was going to do and a good idea of the weight I would catch.
I was pleased to see the lake had not risen any at all Saturday morning when we put in. I ran my topwater places with a buzz bait but didn't catch any. Close to my buzz bait area there were two places I had caught them on a jig three weeks prior. Though I had only had one jig bite the last three practices, I decided to hit them before going to my prime location. My co-angler caught one keeper at our first stop and I caught a couple of shorts. In the second area I caught two and lost two. At that point we headed to may primary location. I realized two miles before I got to it that I was in trouble. The water had gone from a slight stain to corn planting color. When I got to the area the current was unlike any I have ever seen outside of a tailrace. It was totally washed out with mud and even had I wanted to fish it still I was not prepared to fish that level of current with the baits I had prepared.
At this point I went to scrambling and returned to the area I had caught the jig fish earlier and started expanding the area, focusing on docks with a jig. They bit it very good. I probably caught a dozen and ended up with a little over 13 pounds for the day. I did break two fish off on the hook set but I consider that my fault due to not retying often enough. 25 lb Big Game doesn't break like that if you are checking the line properly.
The finish did move me up in the points to 55. I need 10 more spots in order to qualify for the Hartwell Regional in October. We have one tournament left at Norman in September so it is very important I spend my time there in August and September. Norman is the reason I haver been in the hole all year since I zeroed there in the first tournament. Looking forward to redemption.
